Now, Billy Crystal returns to Katz’s Deli 35 years after filming the iconic sequence that would go down in film history forever.
In 1989, his character is shocked when the leading lady, Meg Ryan, fakes an orgasm in the place that is now (re)visited by the 75-year-old actor, who was accompanied by Gayle King from CBS.
Harry and Sally’s table’ is still there, and clearly marked with a big sign saying ‘Where Harry met Sally…. I hope you’ll have what she had!’. The sign evokes the memorable evening after Sally finishes her loud fake orgasm and another Katz’s customer says to a waiter: ‘I’ll have what she’s having’.
King went on to reference the same quote when placing her order at the counter: ‘I want to have what Sally had that day’, and the 46th Kennedy Center honoree ordered the same. Once seated, Crystal tells King that being part of a ‘little piece of history here in New York’, like something incredible already eternally etched on the Kat’z stage, known for its eccentric waiters and pastrami sandwiches since 1888.
