After the premiere of “AIR”, the biopic directed by Ben Affleck, which revolves around the origin of the Air Jordan basketball line, and the origins of that love story between Michael Jordan and Nike, we put the spotlight on these custom sneakers that captured all eyes during the promotional events of the film and the Northeast Gala of Dunkin’s Joy Foundation. Premieres where they presented, as if they were sculptural works, the “Nike Dunk Low” and the “Air Jordan 1 High” silhouettes customized for the occasion.
Ant Kai and Chiou were in charge of reimagining these iconic silhouettes inspired by the product containers, which gave way to the “What the Dunkin” and “Air Dunkin”. Sneakers that could become the new obsession of Ben Affleck, one of the biggest fans of both the Dunkin universe and the Nike Dunk. And the fact is that, beyond having evidenced on several occasions his emotional relationship with the coffee and dunkin chain, and having starred in its latest viral campaign, Affleck is also known for being a sneaker lover, having worn Nike Dunk sneakers on countless occasions..
BEHIND THE DESIGN
These irresistible sneakers are built around an upper inspired by a mix of donuts, browns and a pair of Easter eggs that run along the entire silhouette from the toe to the heel. It closes with laces in the same brownish hue, chromatically synchronized with those pink, orange, brown and beige tones that allude to the frosted donuts and Dunkin’s drinks.
That chip-dusted design that decorates the toe of the Dunk is combined with a drippy pink swoosh (logo), sharing the design with the Air Dunkin (Air Jordan), with some slight modifications such as the suede logo and the winged Jumpman logo now remastered with an “Air Dunkin”.
It’s not the first time that Nike Dunk shoes have inspired the world of gastronomy and vice versa, fusing fashion and design, as we saw with the Ben & Jerry’s Dunks that caused a furor on the internet and devotion in auction houses. Now, these Dunkin silhouettes, despite having been designed expressly for the pre-film itself, could cause a kind of mass hysteria if they are finally released by Nike.
