The CosMc’s restaurants that McDonald’s started opening about a year ago, inspired by the chain’s nostalgic alien character, are now in danger of extinction. The chain has already closed three of them, some of them only a few months old.
Its space series of restaurants focused on drinks is, after all, a small experiment that the fast food empire wanted to take to another dimension, converting some of its largest establishments into CosMc’s test locations in Texas. Finding that they didn’t quite work, McDonald’s has decided to close three of them, claiming that its smaller shops are performing better.
Although McDonald’s has not specified exactly which ones it will be closing, it has confirmed that it will be replacing them with two smaller CosMc’s. Testing is said to continue into the ‘foreseeable future’ where customers will be able to enjoy potato croquettes, regardless of the time of day, and Churro Cold Brew Frappes and Sour Energy Bursts as ‘afternoon beverages’. However, it appears that the restaurant has yet to adapt to this new beverage-focused business model and it is unclear to what extent it will grow or expand.
