Oprah Winfrey‘s media echo and power is unstoppable. This was demonstrated on 1 November when she starred in an unexpected ‘marketing campaign’ for the Bonilla a la Vista brand, when she revealed her list of ‘favourite things’. Well, among them were her iconic potato crisps, which the presenter has now established as the new pop symbol.
Believe me, I know about chips. And these ones from Galicia (Spain) are worth investing in. They’re fried in olive oil so they’re slightly crispy. They’re delicious on their own or, as snackers can imagine, as a dip,’ Winfrey said on her show. That speech would instantly boost online sales of Bonilla potato crisps. This was confirmed by this historic brand that was born in 1932: in just four hours the 4,000 units available on their website were sold out.
This flurry of sales by Oprah’s community of fans led to them buying them for 27.5 dollars per 275 gram tin. The price was lowered for the occasion, as they usually sell for 55 dollars in the US.
Bonilla a la Vista‘s flagship product, gourmet potato crisps with olive oil and sea salt, are not the first time they have transcended pop culture through the screen. Some 30 years ago they were part of a Balmain campaign, while in 2020 they had a rare cameo in the cult Korean film ‘Parasites’, elevating them to the global stage.
