Tapapiés is back for another year with a great gastro-musical event that will be activated from the streets to the bars and restaurants of Lavapiés. From Thursday 17 to Sunday 27 October, more than 100 bars and restaurants will be serving exclusive tapas paired with bottles or beers El Águila.
From meat tapas to vegetarian or gluten-free tapas will reflect the characteristic eclecticism of Tapapiés from establishments such as the San Fernando and Antón Martín Markets. In addition, during the two weekends the squares and streets of the town will resound with 30 concerts, parades and free shows that will complete the program.
Following in the wake of previous editions, Tapapiés 2024 will incorporate several of the new bars and restaurants opened in Lavapiés, in addition to the neighborhood’s classics. The route will connect the bars of Argumosa with the traditional taverns of Embajadores, Ave María, Olivar, Doctor Fourquet, Mesón de Paredes…
NEWS FROM 2024
Among other novelties, this festival that celebrates the multiculturalism of the neighborhood will incorporate the contest with a professional jury that will choose the winning tapa for the First Prize (El Águila Dorada Prize) and the Second Prize (Jury Prize). The first is endowed with €2,000 and the second with €1,500. In addition, the Audience Award will be maintained as Third Prize, endowed with €300 in shopping vouchers.
Although the official tasting of the jury will take place on September 30 at the Café Barbieri in Lavapiés, its members will also taste the tapas during the route. Six evaluation criteria will be taken into account: presentation, elaboration, ingredients, originality and difficulty of handling; taste, temperature, creativity and maintenance of the tapa throughout the event. This year Tapapiés will have the king of casquería Javi Estévez as its chef godfather who will prepare fine casquería tapas during the traditional inauguration for press and guests at La Casa Encendida.
The programming of Tapapiés 2024 will include 32 outdoor shows including music, parades and theatrical animations, on the weekends from 18 to 20 and 25 to 27. The concerts will take place in the squares of Ana Diosdado, Arturo Barea, Calvario with Ministriles, Cascorro, Lavapiés and Nelson Mandela. On these stages, 18 national and international bands such as Jeff Espinoza, Blue Monkeys, Canallita Speed or Delta 66 will make us dance to the rhythm of country, blues, pop-rock, indie, electro, jazz, folk, ethnic, Cuban son, tango or boleros.
