The Grammy winner spoke with PEOPLE about her recent collaboration with Pepsi. A conversation that touched on other foodie topics such as her favorite local restaurants; a sentiment that would also be shared by the rest of the Destiny’s Child members.
When Kelly Rowland takes a throwback to the past, she recalls some of the key moments that marked her childhood in Texas. One of those memories would be the singer’s meals at the Houston restaurant ‘This Is It Soul Food’.
Most of Rowland’s meals at ‘This Is It’ were enjoyed with her late mother Doris, Michelle Williams and Beyoncé, as well as Tina Knowles and Matthew Knowles, as a group ritual after church. But despite gathering all the members of the group under the same roof of the restaurant, they rarely used the place to talk about work.
Now, the artist is part of the ‘Local Eats Better with Pepsi’ program that brings to the stage one of her favorite soul food dishes from the Houston restaurant: the pepper steak with rice and gravy, green beans, peach cobbler and a Pepsi. This Is It will be sold for $15 at the two Houston restaurants from Aug. 27 to Sept. 4.
‘Everything at This Is It is absolutely delicious, but this meal in particular, the green beans remind me of my mother, the pepper steak with rice and gravy is warm and full of love, and the peach cobbler is an out-of-body experience,’ Rowland says. ‘You pair it all with a nice cold Pepsi and it’s amazing.’
