If you like to frequent the coolest coffee shops in the city and the most modern proposals, you will probably see on their menu the Chai Latte, one of the most trendy drinks (for several years). Chai in Hindi literally means ‘tea’, and is one of the oldest hot drinks in the world. Roughly speaking, it would be a tea with milk and spices such as cinnamon and cardamom. But it also provides a host of health benefits: from antioxidant, digestive and diuretic properties to boosting metabolism, promoting relaxation and even being a good alternative to coffee. So if you dare to try it at home, we explain how to prepare the Chai Latte recipe step by step.
Chai Latte recipe at home
Preparation:
- First, in a saucepan, toast the spices over low heat for 5 minutes: the cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, black pepper and cardamom pods.
- After 5 minutes, add the peeled ginger and toast for a couple of minutes. Then add a liter of water.
- Stir well to integrate all the mixture and turn up the heat and let it boil for a couple of minutes.
- Remove from the heat and add the black tea, along with the honey. Cover the saucepan and let it infuse for 8 minutes.
- Strain the tea and pour it into a cup.
- Next, heat the milk in another cup and use a frother to whisk the milk to create a froth. Pour the milk into the tea cup.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon powder and enjoy. You can also add a little whipped cream at the end.
