One of the most talked-about topics these days is the business triumph of computer graphics manufacturer Nvidia and its owners, who are now much richer than before thanks to the increased market value of their company. As a result, many want to know more about the people in charge of positioning a video game graphics brand, their tastes, their habits and even their past.
One of them is none other than Jensen Huang, current CEO of Nvidia and one of the three founders of this multimillion-dollar company. Interestingly, even before he started studying at university, Huang was working in the kitchen of a well-known restaurant chain in the United States: Denny’s. At the age of 15, he started working as a waiter and dishwasher in the kitchen. At the age of 15, he started working as a waiter and dishwasher at one of the franchises in Portland.
“I was a dishwasher, I was a busboy, I waited tables,” Huang said. “Nobody can carry more cups of coffee than me.” The truth is that the relationship between the Nvidia CEO and Denny’s is a special one. Mainly because at one of the franchise tables where he worked, what is now the largest maker of computer graphics was born. “I had all the coffee you could drink and no one could throw at you,” Jensen Huang explains.
In 2023, Huang met with Denny’s counterpart Kelli Valade to meet in person and talk about the Nvidia CEO’s past at the restaurant. “We make the best pancakes here,” Huang said. To which Valade responded, “I love how you still say ‘we’.” “Made fresh every day,” Huang added with a smile.
A good American breakfast
If we open the laminated menu of Denny’s, those images of American breakfasts with pancakes and fried bacon come to mind. And that is Denny’s specialty: making good breakfasts. Pancakes with butter on top and dipped in maple syrup are the crown jewels of the American franchise. “This is exactly what I ate every day,” Huang said in an interview with HP in 2023 while devouring one of Denny’s pancakes.
Recently, shakes have become another of the company’s emblems. They come in different flavors, from classic chocolate to strawberry or coffee. Although for Jensen Huang, the shakes were the worst of the worst. “There was nothing worse in the world than making a milkshake. When someone would ask for one I would say inside, ‘Are you sure? Don’t you want a Coke?'”.
Although you can not only have breakfast at Denny’s. You can also have lunch or dinner. Among its extensive menu, you can find hamburgers with onion rings as garnish, meat and egg sandwiches and even breaded chicken wings.
