The time to go all out and celebrate Christmas in style is approaching, with lunches and dinners like banquets and lots of gifts. And that, of course, will be felt in our pockets. According to a survey conducted in November by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), Spaniards will spend an average of around 745 euros this Christmas, an increase of 1.3% and 10 euros more than last year.

Specifically, this year the budget for dinners and meals with family, friends and co-workers increases especially, from 138 euros in 2022 to 150 euros for this one, as well as spending on travel and vacations (112 euros compared to 101 euros last year), while it remains high on Christmas lottery (71 euros) and, above all, on gifts (396 euros).

Regarding the purchase of gifts, the survey confirms that the Internet remains the priority channel for 36% of respondents, compared to 30% who prefer to make their purchases in physical stores, while the rest bet on combining both channels in equal measure.

Many leisure plans

It also highlights the increase in typical Christmas outings, as 68% will visit Christmas markets (62% last year), 60% will go out to see the Three Kings Parade (56% in 2022) and 50% will go out to lunch or dinner with colleagues (44% last year). In addition, the vast majority of respondents, 86%, confirm their intention to participate in dinners and meals with non-cohabiting family members.

On the other hand, the report ‘Perspectivas del consumo navideño en un mundo cambiante’ by OBS Business School, an institution belonging to Planeta Formación y Universidades, further adjusts these budgets, with the average expenditure of Spaniards this Christmas being 635 euros.

And you, what is your budget for Christmas lunches and dinners, as well as gifts and possible trips?
