Being married to model Chrissy Teigen, who owns a biscuit brand and is very much into the foodie world, it seems that John Legend’s love for gastronomy has also rubbed off on him. He has just announced that he has founded, along with Mike Rosenthal, a new app that seeks to reinvent the concept of restaurant reviews and recommendations. Called It’s Good, its mission is to be a place to save and share your favourite places to eat and drink.

Under the premise of reliable and real recommendations, the new app does away with the concept of star ratings, in order to directly differentiate between good and bad sites. “Actually, it’s not even designed to get negative feedback. You either recommend it or you don’t,” John Legend explained in The Wall Street Journal.

New era of recommendations

The project between Legend and Rosenthal has been in the making for the past four years and is currently in the process of building up a good database to create a strong community. At the moment, access is by invitation only or by signing up to the waitlist on their website. One of the main missions of It’s Good is to tackle the loss of credibility that websites of this type have suffered in recent years. “We’re dealing with a real-world problem that hasn’t been solved since Yelp started, more than 20 years ago,” Rosenthal told People in Color Tech.

Their motto is: “We believe that a restaurant recommendation from a trusted friend is more valuable than a recommendation from 10,000 strangers”. Is this a new era of 100% real recommendations? Time will prove John Legend and his team right (or wrong).
