The Ensaladilla Rusa is one of the most typical tapas of Spanish gastronomy. Its preference is almost unanimous among diners, so it is very difficult to choose a single favorite salad. But that is why there are championships like the VI National Championship of Ensaladilla Rusa, which this year, in addition, has had a prestigious jury composed of chefs such as Martín Berasategui or Leonor Espinosa, and journalists such as José Carlos Capel, Julia Pérez, Carlos Maribona and Benjamín Lara.
The winner of the championship, held at the San Sebastian Gastronomika – Euskadi Basque Country, was the restaurant La Viña de Henao, in Bilbao. It is a restaurant run by María del Carmen Bedia Berodia, which will be the new home of the best Russian salad in Spain.
La Viña de Henao is a small place, located on Henao Street, that will make you feel at home. It has a short but winning menu. With the intention of maintaining the maximum freshness and quality in the raw material, here Maria del Carmen Bedia Berodia offers a natural and market cuisine, simmered. Her star dish, obviously, is the Russian salad, but you should also try the creamy seafood rice, the cod stuffed bell pepper or the cod kokotxas in green sauce, among other delicacies.
Behind were the restaurants El Txoko de Ramiro Berri (Donostia-Guipúzcoa), Tangana, Local de Ensayo (Murcia), L’Arrosseria (Cunit, Tarragona), Avrile (Santander), Hermanos Alba (Málaga), Torres Herrera, La Isla (Seville) and El Pandora (Avilés, Asturias).
