This weekend we travel to Formentera, the smallest island paradise of the Balearic Islands that is structured around the ocean, dunes and marshes where you can appreciate its natural beauty, experience the slow life philosophy and wear its boho-chic aesthetics.
FRIDAY 4TH
This time we will be staying at the luxury oasis Five Flowers Hotel & Spa located near the beach of Es Pujols. There we will spend the weekend, relaxing in one of the boutiques of its vibrant concept that reinterprets the ‘flower power’ style, and which also houses plenty of pools, ‘wellness’ options, as well as the restaurant ‘Janis’, which pays tribute to the artist of reference and hippie icon of the counterculture of the 60s.
When the day gives way to night and the sky of Formentera is colored with intense oranges and violets, the idea is to discover ‘The Five Flowers Sky‘: its new cocktail club – bar that travels through the most suggestive gastronomic destinations in the world from Lebanon to Mexico, Japan or Peru.
There, mixology and gastronomy are synchronized in perfect harmony through an exotic cocktail bar created by the Chilean bartender Lucas Knibbs, accompanied by a menu of street-food inspired delicacies.
Along with the a la carte menu, its gastronomic journey proposes a four-course pairing option that begins with red shrimp nigiri and a glass of cava and ends with a spicy cocktail and Lebanese sirik kebab.
SATURDAY 5TH
On Saturday we will visit the village of La Savina, and its pristine beaches, secluded coves and defensive towers to reach the dream landscape of the Natural Park of Ses Salines. A space of great cultural value with a rich biodiversity in which to find different ecosystems and species of trees and plants among which to get lost in the beauty of nature.
From this scenic setting we will move on to another gastronomic and emblematic one: Casa Pacha Formentera, which, beyond being a hotel, is a restaurant with eternal views of the sea in which its executive chef Pau Barba fuses the best local products.
There we will be able to taste a menu that dances between the sea and the mountains, serving fish and seafood such as grilled crayfish from Formentera, red prawns with garlic or clams in green sauce. Although the half loin of pure-bred beef, the lobster from Formentera, the blue lobster in stew or the mellow rice with lobster also deserve a special mention.
SUNDAY 6TH
On Sunday we will continue exploring the depth of Formentera’s gastronomy at the restaurant Fandango Formentera, located on the beach of Es Pujols.
In its island-inspired space, among elements of natural fibers, native vegetation and local crafts, we will be able to delve into the gastronomic proposal directed by Luis Arrufat, the Valencian chef who has an intense professional career in Michelin-starred restaurants such as Mugaritz, Drolma or Akelarre.
In its menu, which revolves around the art of the embers and conveys the culinary essence of the culture and the essence of the place, we will opt for its star dish: the mellow rice with squid and sobrasada.
In the afternoon, the plan will be to relegate ourselves to the pleasure of contemplative life near the sea at Cala Saona, one of the most beautiful beaches of Formentera located between two rocky cliffs that opens to the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean.
We will close the weekend walking and watching the sunset from the Cap de Barbaria, famous for the movie Lucia and sex starring Paz Vega in 2001.
