This iconic North Side Chicago hot dog stand that serves street food accompanied by insults in life would have never imagined that someone like Ed Sheeran would be part of their team, even if it was for at least 10 minutes of his life.
Despite not following in the wake of the ‘badassery’ that identifies the joint, and is part of its appeal, leaving the insults to the rest of the staff, on Saturday afternoon, Sheeran got behind the counter to serve hot dogs in a frenzied fashion.
‘Our new apprentice @edsheeran has a lot to learn, he’s too proper and polite,’ The Wieners Circle posted on social network X on Saturday.
The British star spent about 10 minutes working at The Wieners Circle, just hours before his concert in front of 73,000 spectators at Soldier Field.
The fact that Sheeran was handing out hot dogs ended up gathering a whole crowd of people around the stand, as well as triggering a flurry of photos and videos on social media of Sheeran serving beef sausages loaded with ‘everything’.
According to Ragen Eggert, Wieners Circle’s social media manager, the singer managed to hand out about 100 hot dogs to customer-fans. Eggert also told Block Club Chicago that Sheeran was slightly confused when the staff started shouting insults at his customers, as they seemed unfamiliar with the stall’s foul-mouthed customer service tradition, but quickly realized what was going on.
‘I served hot dogs at @wienerscircle today,’ Sheeran wrote on Instagram. ‘This place is legendary in Chicago for serving hot dogs and insulting their customers. I loved it’.
