If you want to know the authentic temple of ice cream, you will have to travel to Thailand. Here there is an ice cream shop that makes popsicles inspired by the famous temples. It is called Pop Icon and sells its ‘Flower of Dawn’ which are 3D ice creams with the shape inspired by this iconic and sacred building, the Temple of Dawn in Wat Arun, Bangkok.
These carefully detailed embossed ice creams perfectly represent the characteristic pagoda flowers of Thai temples. At the moment they only sell two types, with classic Thai flavors. On the one hand, the blue butterfly pea flower ice cream and Thai milk tea with smoked coconut and orange sorbet. Pop Icon is very conscious of promoting Thai culture and heritage. So much so, that the proceeds from each sale go to the Buddhist temple for medical and educational funds.
Speaking to Reuters, owner Sirinya Hanpachearnchoak said, “I think if we put the identity of the temple on the ice cream, people might spend more time examining the details (of the pagoda) than they would otherwise.”
These ‘Flower of Dawn’ ice creams cost around €2.5 and a limited number of products are produced each day. And each ice cream stick hides a motivational or reflective message. They usually sell out very quickly, so if you are lucky enough to visit Bangkok this summer, we recommend you to come early to this ice cream parlor.
