Before we talk about the new version of the iconic Got Milk? campaign, perhaps we should clarify the meaning of Nepo babies, a term that came into use relatively recently. It is used to refer to the children or relatives of singers, actors or celebrities who have used their social position to make their way into the star-system. From Lilly Collins (daughter of Phil Collins) to Dakota Johnson (daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson), Hailey Bieber (daughter of Stephen Baldwin and niece of Alec Baldwin) or Zoë Kravitz (daughter of Lenny Kravitz), could be some examples of what the American press has coined as nepo babies.
Now the Silk brand has recreated the famous Got Milk? campaign from the 90s, starring celebrities such as David Beckham, Christie Brinkley and Shaquille O’Neal, among others. The plant-based milk brand has done so to launch its new Nextmilk product line, but has given it a twist. It has hired the children of the celebrities who made the adverts in their day to recreate the new campaign. Thus, nepo babies such as Brooklyn Beckham, Ella Travolta, Myles and Shaqir O’Neal or Sailor Brinkley-Cook have updated this iconic advert, going viral again. In the photos, the youngsters appear with milk moustaches, an image that is directly associated with the advert that marked an era in the 90s.
Silk has been able to adapt to the times, using rising stars and new technologies. It has even created a filter on TikTok to show off the campaign’s moustache and is raffling off a year’s worth of its products for free.
