The role of Elvis is bringing almost every award to actor Austin Butler. After the Golden Globe and the Bafta, he is waiting for his first Oscar. Playing the king of rock and roll has brought him his greatest professional joys. But to become Elvis he had to work hard, not only acting-wise. The American actor had to put on weight to get into the legendary singer’s skin. Recently on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Austin Butler revealed what diet he followed to reach the weight he wanted to be Elvis.
Austin confessed that he had had to eat a lot of sweets to gain a few kilos. To make it quicker and easier, he was inspired by Ryan Gosling’s method. “I heard that Ryan Gosling, when he was going to do ‘The Lovely Bones’, would eat ice cream in the microwave and drink it. So I started doing it. In this way, the actor has included ice cream soups in his diet. But not only that, he also added two dozen doughnuts to his diet. He started gaining weight quickly. “It’s fun for a week, but then you feel terrible about yourself,” he confessed on the podcast.
The King of Rock’s diet
Elvis Presley’s diet was not very healthy either. The singer ate a high-calorie diet that included his favourite peanut butter and banana sandwich, bacon, chocolate biscuits, his favourite meat pie and banana pudding. They even said that he drank half a litre of ice cream in the mornings.
