In today’s world of hospitality, either you reinvent yourself or you are lost. This is what happened at La Peña restaurant, on the outskirts of Lorca (Murcia). Until the beginning of 2022, its menu was based mainly on grilled steaks. But, as a joke, it began to offer a kind of free seafood buffet that went viral until it became a phenomenon -right now it is fully booked until May-. He reformulated the concept of the restaurant to what today is ‘Mariscos a lo Bestia’, a gastro show designed so that you can have a good time while Pedro Lucas Abellaneda, owner of the restaurant and nicknamed the ‘uncle of the shovel’ -along with the rest of the team of La Peña- offers you seafood in huge quantities served in a large wheelbarrow.
The menu costs only 50€ and you have the possibility to eat everything you want: from giant trays of salad to unthinkable amounts of seafood (such as Caribbean lobster, crab, lobster, shrimp, red shrimp or prawns). In addition, you also have at your fingertips chato murciano, eggs with potatoes, wine, fruit skewers, ice cream and coffee.
And you even have the chance to start tasting oysters for only €1.5. And all enlivened by a team of waiters who interact with diners and star in some performance to the rhythm of Paquito el Chocolatero or Y viva España by Manolo Escobar. The show starts with the appearance of a giant lobster strolling around the restaurant.
A true spectacle in every sense that, of course, has gone viral on networks such as Twitter or TikTok, receiving both positive and negative reviews.

Many question the concept itself, the quality of the seafood for that price or the sanitary measures of serving the product in a steel cart. According to Lucas Abellaneda, the restaurant has been visited several times by the health authorities and everything is in order. But what he receives most are positive comments and the desire to try the mega seafood menu, judging by the hundreds of thousands of views and comments that accumulate the posts that are shared. Of course, it is not a restaurant suitable for those who suffer from uric acid.
Would you dare to try all the seafood ‘a lo bestia’ you want in this Murcian restaurant? And if you want something lighter, we leave you this recipe for seafood salad with green shoots.
