What if burritos stuffed with paella, what if chorizo sandwiches with Nocilla, what if champagne with Diet Coke… Social networks, and our own kitchens (all said and done), are a hotbed of recipes for ALL tastes, with capital letters. Because on the Internet usually triumph easy, quick and healthy dishes, yes, but also proliferate all kinds of gastronomic inventions (some, depending on who you ask, end up becoming real culinary aberrations). Be that as it may, getting that title makes them viral. And, in the end, thousands of people end up wondering whether or not to try them at home.
For all these reasons, perhaps we are not surprised by the new (and at least curious) mix that, for some time now, has been flooding TikTok: “appetizers” made with caviar are now trending in many of its users’ accounts. Since when? Since November, when influencer Danielle Matzon shared a video of herself (which today already has more than 500,000 likes and more than 8 million views) showing one of her favorite snacks: a toast of “fitness” bread spread with butter and topped with caviar.
But that was not the first formula seasoned with the so-called black gold that the tiktoker posted on her network. Before that, Matzon had already posted another video in which he showed his followers a “snack” made of caviar with mussels on a cracker. And as the days went by, more of the same: cucumber with caviar, Doritos with cream and caviar… Yes, yes, you read that right. All of them, snacks made from this delicacy of kings, one of the most exclusive foods of the food pyramid, a delicatessen available to very few due to its price.
For this very reason, because of its cost, understanding caviar as a “snack” is, for many, an armed robbery. On the contrary, the insistence of the influencer does make sense (and a lot): her family runs the company Marky’s Caviar. And hence the publications that concern us in this article continuously navigate between “what she picks on any given day” and the promotion of the brand. In any case, her followers also want to eat what she eats.
