National Football League teams eat huge amounts of peanut butter and jelly-filled ‘uncrustables‘ during the season. Specifically, about 80,000 per year, as The Athletic has reflected in its new report.
The NFL teams’ obsession with these ‘PB&Js’ has baffled everyone from the media to the league’s devotees, who can’t understand this sort of cult-like attachment to this nostalgic childhood snack. So much so that Jayson Jenks of The Athletic says that NFL locker room trash cans are filling up with Uncrustables wrappers.
The Denver Broncos, for example, are the team that eats the most: 700 a week. The Seattle Seahawks are in second place, with 320 sandwiches. The reason? They are supposed to have become popular with players because of their portability and nutritional value.
What is certain is that uncrustables have quietly become a favorite snack in NFL locker rooms. Who would have thought that a childhood favorite would be the boost for some of the league’s best players?
