Millennials – also known as Millennial Generation or Generation Y – are these young people that, according to the experts and people who have created this term, were born approximately between 1981 and 1995 (an approximate date, we don’t wanna be categorical with the date and years). These youths have some things and characteristics in common, most of them have higher education and have lived a happy and prosperous – economically speaking – childhood and adolescence. Although we try to categorize these youths in the same generation, there will be, obviously, some people who don’t follow these habits. There are always exceptions. However, here we show you some habitual dietary habits of the youths that constitute this generation.

In most cases, they have worst eating and drinking habits than the previous generations. Usually, they spend less time in preparing their plates and meals and also, Millennials, don’t ‘waste’ their time in the kitchen. That could be, maybe, because of the quickness day after day or the hectic pace of the work or the studies. Millennials drink more energy drinks, eat more fast food, industrial pastries that contain saturated fat, and snacks. Also, and maybe because of the hectic pace, most of them don’t have five meals per day – the recommended amount. Experts say that most of the youths of this generation have or will have, in a near future, weight related diseases, like, for example, obesity.

However, on the other side, a lot of Millennials worry about what they eat and how they do it. Most of them have an ecological consciousness and they care about the organic and local products. Also, a lot of them worry about nature and animals – the number of vegan people has increased over the years – and they also care about their bodies, not only the inside but also the outside. A lot of them exercise regularly.

They are improving their gastronomical knowledge. We said before that they spend less time in the kitchen, but they know better the cuisines of other countries around the world. Thanks to multiculturality and thanks to the easiness of travelling – that didn’t exist in the previous generations – they know plates like the Indian tikka masala chicken, Mexican burritos or Japanese sushi; and drinks like Chinese teas or German glüwhein. All of that couldn’t be possible, except in a few specific cases, in the previous generations to the Millennial Generation.
